The UN International Day of Older Persons was celebrated in Oshawa in two stages. First there was a raising of the Seniors Voice flag at City Hall by the Deputy Mayor, Nestor Pidwerbecki, and Lyle Hargrove, President of the South Central Area Council of CURC. The first photo shows them with the declaration of the City proclaiming October 1 as the International Day of Older Persons.

After the flag raising ceremony, people went to the Oshawa Senior Citizen Centre where lunch was served to 40 people including a special cake (photo). Jennifer French is shown cutting the cake with Lyle Hargrove (photo).George Hewison entertained everybody with his guitar playing and songs. (photo)
The event was co-hosted by Unifor Local 222 Retired Workers Chapter and the Oshawa Seniors Centre, John Street Branch. A great time was had by all.
